Final course in the intermediate series. Introduces a new form called Ragamalika or Garland of Ragas, and more difficult, concert worthy Krtis in different Talas like Adi Tala (2 Kalais). Tiruppugazh a popular devotional form is taught. The theory takes us through the life and contribution of Saint Arunagirinathar, details of the form Ragamalika and Raga Lakshanas.

Objectives

  • Here the student learns Krtis in different Tala structures and more difficult ones, which are concert worthy. These krtis serve as encyclopedias for the Raga and its characteristics. This course introduces the student to different tālā cyles namely Adi tala 2 Kalai through the Krtis. Learning Krtis of different composers help students to understand the style of each composer. 
  • The Ragamalika is a composition set to different Ragas The student learns the form Ragamalika and its applications in compositions. 
  • Tiruppugazh is a devotional composition set to complex Tala patterns and finds an important place in the end of concerts.
  • Biography of Arunagirinathar gives us an account of the great Saint who composed the Tiruppugazh, a very important form in the realm of devotional music.
  • Raga Lakshanas gives details of the Raga, the svaras it takes, the special phrases that are characteristic of the Raga, popular compositions in the Raga are all listed to get a better understanding of the Ragas.
