The Ri Level Exam consists of 3 contact review classes, a written exam (take-home assignment) and 1 class for viva voce. A viva voce session is up to 1 hour long. The student will have access to the exam OM book as soon as they enrol. The actual exam will be scheduled based on the student's convenience and the availability of the teacher.
The practical exam is a performance which will be assessed by the teachers. The meeting is arranged using video conferencing. A written examination will test the student's grasp of music theory. This exam enables the student to reinforce the concept of varnam-s and krithi-s, which form the most important lessons of carnatic music, focussing on refinement in singing and also a basis for a concert platform.
Varnam-s and krithi-s are included in this level to help voice modulation and singing with gamaka-s. This includes perfection in shruthi, thalam and layam, in-depth understanding of raga-s.
The Ragas that have been introduced are Mohana, Abhogi, Shankarabharanam, Vasantha, Kalyani and Hamsadhwani.
Theory concepts include in-depth understanding of the compositional forms varnam-s and krithi-s, the difference between the two, biography of the trinities (Saint Thyagaraja, Sri Muttuswamy Dikshitar and Sri Shyama Shastry) and ragalakshana-s of all the raga-s in the course
