LYP 106 helps students move beyond note-reading to develop a clear understanding of musical structure and flow. In this module, students learn how composers and styles use repeats, codas, and directional signs to guide a piece from beginning to end. Alongside this, students are introduced to the 12-bar blues form, understanding how repetition creates structure in popular and contemporary music, and how V7 (dominant seventh) chords generate movement, tension, and resolution within that framework.
By the end of LYP 106, students read music with greater confidence, recognise structural patterns across genres, and develop a stronger harmonic awareness that supports both accurate performance and musical expression.
