Entry level foundation course for students who do not have any prior experience learning Indian/Carnatic music, covering the basic seven notes and perfection of the swaras.To be able to understand the concept of Pitch (shruthi) and Notes and identify them. To learn the basic Swara patterns (saralivarisais) and also the Ragams along with their scales. Aakara practice is also included.

Duration: 12 weeks, one 45 mins lesson per week

Objectives

  • Learn pitch recognition 
  • Learn Sarali varisais in Shankarabharana.
  • Have knowledge of the history of Indian/Carnatic music

      •   Understand the terminologies used in musical parlance 
      •   Gain familiarity with the basic seven notes 
      •   Attain perfection of the Svaras through the prescribed exercises
      •   Traverse comfortably in a single octave, mastering singing of all notes
      •   Be motivated to pursue the next level of learning

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, students will
  • Have knowledge of the history of Indian/Carnatic music
  • Sing the sarali varisais in at least 2 speeds well as swara and akaram
  • Gain familiarity with the basic seven notes  and gain understanding of Pitch
  • Traverse comfortably in a single octave, mastering singing of all notes in Tala and Pitch and to  understand  better the concept of speed or tempo in Carnatic music
  • Sing Nottu Swaras

Anyone who has an interest and passion to learn music and is above the age of 6 and half  years.
