This course aims to impart a definitive understanding of basic definitions pertaining to percussion such as beats, rhythms, bars and an introduction to the syllables that make up the language of Konnakol.

Course Format

12 sessions of 45 minutes each. 

Online batch size: Minimum of 1 maximum of 3 participants

 

 

 

Objectives

- The meaning and difference between beat, rhythm and tempo

- Notating percussive ideas

- Grasping percussive syllables

- Reading and reciting percussive phrases

  • (Must have) Knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, highest common factor, least common multiple.
  • (Optional) Knowledge of algebra

What’s Rhythm
  • Carnatic- Nadai
  • Hindustani- Gathi
  • Western- time signature
What’s Tempo
  • Carnatic- kaalam-mel kaalam, samakaalam, vilambakaalam, etc.
  • Hindustani- lay- vilambit, adirut, etc.
  • Western- lento, andante, allegretto, allegro, presto, etc.
