Prerequisites

The student should have completed HV108 from the academy OR                                     

 The student should be able to:

  • Perform Chhota Khayal with self-created Aalap and Taan in at least 6 Ragas along with SwaraVistar,
  • Sing a Tarana in any Raga,
  • Create Alankar patterns in different Ragas and sing them,
  • Compose and sing a Swar Maalika and a Tarana,
  • Recite Teentaal, Dadra, Rupak and Jhaptaal
  • Sing a Bhajan


Overview

In this course HV109 the student revisits and reviews Ragas learned earlier, works on the Raga roop and Swar Vistar with attention to developing the ability of switching Ragas. The create their own composition of a medley of about 4 Ragas, with the idea resembling that of the traditional Ragamala composition. The early morning majestic Raga Bhairav is introduced in this course with a Chhota Khayal Bandish in Madhyalaya Ektaal. This Raga is improvised with Swar Vistar and improvisation within the Ektaal structure.

Raga Durga Tarana is a beautiful composition spanning octaves is learned.
