If you wish to master a raag say Yaman, learn a Kabir doha set to music or just explore the musical tradition behind your favorite Bollywood number, "Words to Melody" is the course for you. This course is uniquely flexible and receptive to the student’s musical need. A song for the course will be selected as a result of a dialog between student and teacher. The student is taught the song in depth over the duration of 4 weeks, uncovering along the way a plethora of nuances and references. Depending on the capability of the student, additional classes may be required to be purchased which could extend the course beyond the 4 week period. Student can also opt to extend the course by selecting additional songs and all such extensions will be booked in 4-week batches at a time.

Objectives

  • Orient the student to Indian light, semi classical and classical based songs, one song at a time over a minimum 4 week course.
  • Spend in-depth, quality time with a master instructor.
  • Classes will be online or face to face but in either case recorded so students can download the recording, if they wish to.

  • Introduction to 10 popular raagas like Bhup, Saarang, Bhimpalas, Des, Yaman, Khamaj, Malkauns, Durga, Shivranjani and Bhairav
  • Identifying popular songs based on these raagas and helping the student to select one from the list based on students capability and pitch etc
