This is an extension of CVOC 201, including some more Varnams and the introduction of the most exalted form of composition, the Krti, which forms the core of all concerts in the present day. The Biographies of the most important composers namely the Musical Trinity, outline knowledge of musical instruments used in concerts and Raga Lakshanas form the core of theory in this course.
Objectives
Learning Varnams will help in laying a very strong foundation for all advanced learning particularly in the creative aspects of music.Varnams are very significant forms which have to be learnt and practiced diligently.
The Krti is the most celebrated form in concerts and most widely performed in present day concerts and the student understands the concept of Gamakas in each new raga they learn through the Varnams and Krtis.
The students understand the complete structure and role of some musical instruments in concerts.
The students learn about the Musical Trinity and their contribution to the Carnatic music world. The student is motivated to learn more compositions which will enhance their musical knowledge.
Raga Lakshanas give detailed explanation of the Ragas with regard to the svaras they take and other important information which helps the students to have a better grasp of the Raga.
