This course includes study of Raga characteristics. Raga Brindavani Sarang, a Raga that points out towards the folk music roots of Ragas is introduced. A Chhota Khayal in this Raga is learned in detail with Aalap, Bol Aalap and Taan. The principles and guidelines to create Swar Vistar are initiated in this course. The learner gets an opportunity to study interesting compositions like Trivat, Lakshangeet and gets an overview of different types of compositions in Hindustani classical Music. Composing a Raga based tune for a song by the student gives an insight into how a Raga is applied to create an effective musical expression for poetry.

Swara Sadhana, being a part of the continuous learning is included here with focus on Mandra-Swara Sadhana to strengthen the voice and improve one's range of voice. Skill training includes Swara progression and Swara identification exercises.

  • Practice Swar Sadhna with lower registers
  • Introduce the concept of Swar Vistar in a Raga
  • Learn a Chhota Khayal with Aalap , Bol Aalap and Taan in Raga Brindavani Sarang
  • To sing  and practice Swara patterns in Brindavani Sarang
  • Revisit Raga Bhupali and learn a Trivat
  • Know Raga characteristics of Brindavani Sarang and Yaman
  • Understand and identify Tivra Madhyam
  • To sing and practice Swara patterns in Yaman
  • Learn a Lakshangeet in Raga Yaman
  • To learn the Theka of Ektaal
  • To compose a tune for the given poetry by choosing a Raga and set it in Taal

 

  • Student needs to complete HV104 at the academy OR the student should be able to: • Sing stable notes in tune with the Tanpura. • Sing Chhota Khayal with self-created Aalap and Taan in Ragas Bhupali, Durga, Khamaj • demonstrate having learned a Dhrupad
  • Create a Sargam Geet and present it • Listen to a musical sound and identify Swaras, at least 2 Swaras at a time • Read notations and do Swara mapping at a basic level.
