Students will be introduced to more rigorous forms of exercises in different ragams helping them enhance their range and repertoire of different scales. They will also be introduced to a new form of Carnatic music called Swarajathi and new geethams will be taught in different ragas.

Duration: 12 weeks, one 45 mins lesson per week

Objectives

Voice culture exercises help in improving the range and enhancing the voice culture of the students so that singing Gamakas becomes an easy task. Introduction of the most important and unique aspect - Gamakas. Gamakas are the soul of Carnatic Music.

 Learning of Swarajathis and Geethams introduce them to newer swara patterns and ragas, in turn bringing out the Creativity in students which help them apply concepts learnt to Manodharma Sangeetha.

Swarajatis are useful for a student to learn the intricacies of both swaras and thalam or rhythm control at the same time. Raga Lakshanas help the student to understand the characteristics of the Ragas in detail. The student will be familiarized with the “Prathi Madhyamam” through the raga Kalyani, which is an important swara for many ragas in future lessons.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course the student should be able to

- Sing bhriga varisais in 4 ragas  (swaras and akaaram)

- Convert a sampoorna raga sarali varisai into an audava raga sarali varisai

- Decode swaras of all the ragas taught so far.

Student should have completed CV101, 102, 103 and 104 or should know Basics of Carnatic music, be familiar with Talams, alankarams. Should know a few geethams. Should be familiar with and be able to identify ragams-shankarabharana,Mayamalavagowla,Mohana,Malahari, and sing in correct pitch.
