In this course the student gets to learn a difficult Tana Varnam (Todi), Group Krtis composed by the Trinity, The theory in this course has a chapter on the Mudras or signatures used by composers, the Concept of Navavidha Bhakti and its application in compositions and the Raga Lakshana of Todi.

Objectives

  • The Todi Varnam is a very difficult Varnam and gives the student a complete idea of the structure of the Todi Raga and prepares him/ her for complex lessons. Varnams give the student an idea of the structure of the raga and the Svara combinations permissible in the particular Raga.
  • Krtis help the student understand the essence of the Raga, its special phrases and its beauty. Group Krtis of great composers provide an insight into the composition and other relevant details and make an interesting study for students. Learning group Krtis will help the student understand more about the composer, the philosophy behind these compositions and their specialities.
  • The student is familiarized with all the Mudras or Signatures used by composers in their compositions. The student will recognize a composition and the composer by the Mudras.
  • The concept of Navavidha Bhakti is explained, which is the underlying concept of all compositions of Great composers.
  • Raga Lakshanas give characteristic features and important details of the Ragas are given so that there is deeper and better understanding of the Raga as a whole, its important phrases and so on.





  • Should have learnt at least 15 varnams. 25 kritis.
