This course introduces two more important Varnams and the important form Krti (3 Simple Krtis in Mohanam, Sriranjani and Karnataka Suddhasaveri), Musical Instruments used in Carnatic Music, Gamakas in Carnatic music, Raga Lakshanas.
Prerequisites: <br/><label style='padding-left:20px'>Completed Carnatic Vocal CVOC202<br/> OR</label><ul style='padding-left:20px'><li> Should be able to sing 6 varnams in 2 speeds</li><li> Learnt at least 10 kritis</li></ul> Duration: 12 weeks, one 45 min lesson per week

Learning Objectives
Varnams are very significant forms and form the base of all future learning and complex aspects of music. The more Varnams one learns the deeper his/her knowledge of the structure of the Raga. The student will learn how the varnam can be used to enhance the creativity of a musician. The student understands the concept of Gamakas in each new raga they learn through the Varnams and Krtis.
The Krti is the most celebrated form in concerts and most widely performed in present day concerts. The student needs to increase his repertoire of compositions constantly. Varnams and Krtis help the student understand the essence of the Raga, its special phrases and its beauty.
The construction and details of musical instruments used in Carnatic music is explained to give a better understanding of how the sound is produced, the resonators, the raw materials used etc in all these instruments.
The Gamakas used in Carnatic Music are unique and are considered the soul of Carnatic music because they lend identity to each Raga and understanding the details of Gamakas help the students to produce the Gamakas in the correct manner.
The student is required to learn more compositions which will enhance their musical knowledge.
